The Loulis Museum in Keratsini is a contemporary and interactive space dedicated to the culture of nutrition, the history of the milling industry, and the rich traditions surrounding the wheat–flour–bread cycle. Housed in the historic Loulis family flour mill, the museum preserves over a century of collected artefacts while inviting the public to engage with the story of bread through immersive, multisensory experiences.
The lighting design follows the museological narrative, guiding visitors through thematic sections while highlighting both the industrial architecture and the exhibited objects. Sculptural machinery, display cases, printed materials, and digital media are all accentuated through carefully calibrated illumination that balances clarity, emphasis, and ambience.
Custom-designed lighting structures, inspired by an industrial piping system, integrate seamlessly into the raw aesthetic of the mill, carrying light throughout the galleries while reflecting the building’s heritage and context. Dynamic, playful, and layered, the lighting mirrors the exhibition itself — colourful, interactive, and multisensory — enhancing visitor engagement and reinforcing the museum’s educational and experiential goals.
Through this approach, light becomes both a narrative and spatial tool, shaping the museum’s atmosphere, emphasizing its architectural character, and animating the collection in a way that connects the past, the process, and contemporary interpretation.
