The concept of the Japanese Izakaya "standing sake shop" was the inspiration for the design of the Ikebana Sushi Bar restaurant.  The goal is to feel like you are participating in a workshop for making drinks and Japanese flavors. For this reason, materials that are found in a laboratory and signify cleanliness were used in the interior like stainless steel on the work surfaces and corian on the benches.

The choice of white on the counter and table tops creates a background for the geometric dishes, which vary in colors and shapes, creating an interesting spectacle for the visitor who is present in the making process.

Particular attention was paid to the lighting of all areas, including the main area, the open kitchen and restrooms. From the exposed ceiling, track mounted beam framer spots were used on the counter and table tops, providing a dramatic highlight as well as indirect soft illumination for the main space.

The dominant element is the circular staircase which is lined with glass bricks, to create a light cylinder connecting the basement to the main floor and the mezzanine seating area. Custom made luminaires were designed to follow the shape of the staircase, using RGBW curved light tubes that turn the staircase into a feature and provide illumination for its use. Glass bricks were also used to partition the main space and the open kitchen, introducing a translucency which allows the illumination of the kitchen to contribute to the main space. Integrated lighting provided working lighting for the Kitchen prep areas.

At basement level the restroom become a separate experience. Linear lighting integrated into the door frames and cubicle skirtings create an intimate and surreal space, where combined with the staircase coloured lighting, generates colour contrast and optical illusions. A small space with expanded perspectives.
