“Healing Light” consists of a “corridor”, approximately 2.5 meters in height, 8 meters in length. Recessed into the acrylic (milky plexi-glass) walls-ceiling-floor are continuous LED strips, each behind an opal plastic diffuser, which give the light a defined yet gentle glow. The installation intends to be an immersive experience for the visitor- engaging and visceral. It has been located at the entrance-exit of De School night club, a totally dark space during most of the time.
The visitors notice a glowing corridor as an indicator of a possible light installation. As soon as they come closer, they realise that there is a dazzling light coming out. Suddenly, they come to experience the power of light in its full glory. Almost blinded by the enveloping lluminated lines, they have to count on their other senses to feel the space and navigate themselves through the corridor. Before they realise it, they exit again to total darkness.
“Healing light” brings people in contact with the healing properties of light, and therefore, the terrifying nature of darkness. Their experience into the light, as a break from urban toxicating shadows, gives them some time to heal their inner dark places and awaken them physically and existentially.
